Creativity for the sake of creativity
Be creative for the sake of being creative
Creativity is in all of us. By nature, humans are creative creatures. Some people think of themselves more as ‘creatives types’ then others, but deep down creativity is at the core of humanity and I believe we should all express our creative gifts just for the sake of being creative wherever and whenever possible.
During my brief trip to Sydney, I worked with a dear friend of mine Jake Weize on a series of photos with a team of creatives for no other purpose than well to be CREATIVE.
The photos we worked on scattered through this blog post took a small army of humans to be brought to life. The team included:
- – Rochelle (Me), as the model or clothes horse as I like to call it. @Rochelle_fox
- – Jake Weisz, as the photographer, artistic director and all-round LEADER or the vision; @Jakeling
- – Kystal from Ixiah, as the designer, stylist and clothing supplier- @ixiah_thelabel
- – Koala as the hair dresser and hair stylist https://www.instagram.com/koalavalu26/
- – Samantha as the makeup artist. @makeup_bysamantha
That’s 5 people, all of whom were not being paid to produce the images, all of whom really had no major purpose for the photos. These images were not part of a campaign or anything; it was just a collaboration of people brought together by Jake having a vision to shoot me. It was a team collaboratively being creative for the purpose of expressing each of our own creative gifts.
So often I see creatives store away their gifts waiting for a ‘purpose’ to play with them again.. But what if that ‘purpose’ never comes? Let’s say you’re an amazing illustrator, and you’ve been doing it since you were a kid, but now you work 9-5 and the last time you drew something was when your mum dusted off Pictionary last Christmas and your team won every round because, well, you are brilliant at drawing. Since then, you haven’t put pen to paper because ‘life hasn’t called you yet’ but life docent always gives us reasons; sometimes, we just need to show up with our creativity for the sake of expression, joy and well having FUN.
I hope this reminds you that your inner child and creative gifts don’t always need a purpose or a reason to be expressed. Often, the best creative projects in my life are personal ones with no real reason behind them because I am allowed to just let my creativity do its thing. Stop waiting and just be creative for the sake of being creative.
Lastly I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to the amazing Krystel from Ixiah who styled this whole shoot and gave me her own wedding dress to wear. Wow what an honour.
Also to Jake Weisz, thank you for being a beautiful friend, an amazing photographer and always capturing my spirit. The photos you have taken of me are ones I will cherish for years to come.
